Nektar Pacer SysEx File
This is where you can get some of my Nektar Pacer files to load into your Pacer for various purposes:
- Nektar Pacer notes: this is intended to be used with two Boss FS-6s, but can be used without them. Basically, it's set up for single notes in octave 4, the same as middle C. The major keys are blue and the minor keys are red. All keys start with the tonic of the key and they are labeled "Bb MJ", "G MAJ", "A MIN", and "Bb MN" so that you know what key they are in. They're arranged in the circle of 5ths, which means the usual major keys of most pop music and minor keys are all next to each other (basically, A1 patch is C, then they're in order of increasing sharps and flats). I use this in church and when I'm out busking. If you want to connect expression pedals, they're arranged in CC 3 and CC 79 for the low pass and high pass filters of the Roland System-1 and System-8.
System-1 Church Set
Here are patch sets I use in
church. To be able to use them, you must be subscribed
to Roland Cloud and have access to the various Plug-Out
VSTs.

System-8 Church Set
Here are my patch sets for church.
The System-8 set is composed only of patches Roland has made
available to the public without a Roland Cloud
subscription. As of Monday, July 27, 2020, I have
requested that Roland allow me to put a few of the patches
from the Roland Cloud Frontiers and Synthwave collections in
this church set. For now, I do not include these
because I do not have permission. Also, for now, I do
not include anything for the Jupiter-8, Juno-106, or JX-3P
because only their factory patches are available publicly.
System-8 Patches
Here, I offer publicly available patches
for the System-8 and its various Plug-Outs (Juno-106,
Jupiter-8, JX-3P, Juno-60). All of these are either
factory or from the Aira website, so they are already
available to those who own these synthesizers and/or
Plug-Outs.
My Church set only includes those
patches Roland has made public via their initial inclusion
on the System-8 or subsequent firmware upgrades (like V 1.2
for example) or from the Roland Aira website. On July
27, 2020, I requested permission from Roland to include some
of my church modifications to their Roland Cloud
patches. They have refused because it would harm them
as a company. I urge those reading this to support
Roland by subscribing to Roland Cloud. Per Romans 13,
I will honor Roland's request.
As for the other patches, I created the
"MOD" files here for church musicians. See the bottom
of the page for a description.
Factory and Roland Cloud patches come in
.BIN files. The VST .BIN files are not the same as the
System-8 backup .BIN files.
Aira website patches come in System-8
Export .S8P file format. You must
download the .S8P and .TXT files together for them to work
on the SD card (EXPORT folder). The System-8 VST
Librarian can load .S8P files and create VST .BIN files but
not create Backup BIN files or S8P export files.
Note that the 2 Synthwave patch sets
from the Aira website (vol. 1 & 2) are not the
same patches as the Synthwave sets on the Cloud (a
completely different set of 64).
Again, because I do not have permission
for Roland Cloud patches, these are not included in any of
my files. I strongly recommend that people subscribe
to Roland Cloud, especially for the excellent Jupiter-8,
Juno-106, and JX-3P patch sets. They're worth it.

Combo Files
These patches are combinations of Aira
sets into one file. Roland has distributed a lot of
great patches for their System-8 from the Aira
website. I'm very happy with Roland: they put out lots
of great patches that are very useful. The only minor
problem I have encountered is that some of these won't
really "fit" onto your screen if you are using the VST and
you click in the patch area. So in an effort to
"condense" or "clean up" the appearance of the System-8 VST
by combining files, I give you the following "combo"
files. "Original" in this table means unmodified, as
these sets didn't "originally" come in one file.

"MOD" File Changes Made for Church
Update: these are still available but I
have changed my patch philosophy. So these will not be
updated until I release a more comprehensive change log.
In my "mod" files above, I essentially perform the "first edit" towards being a patch for church:
- I set the filter and amp velocity sensitivity to at least 64 (except on filter-resonant patches).
- I set mod lever bend to filter sweep and mod lever mod to vibrato (except on lead patches).
- Only on a very few patches did I do anything more. Usually this involved reducing features that would not work very well in church, such as detunes. I only changed any offending value to half its original value. For example, if OSC2 is detuned, I reduced OSC2 mix volume by half. If there was way too much phaser, I reduced the phaser depth to half its original value. I only did this when a patch would be useless in church if I didn't modify it. And I did this very sparingly: maybe only 10 out of the almost 1,000 patches for the System-8 or its Plug-Outs were changed.
